The certification process is simple:

The Associate certification is a voluntary, temporary step towards full certification. Associate certification is awarded when the educational requirements are met. An application for Associate has to be submitted; it is not automatically awarded. Associate certification may be held for only 6 years during which the certificant is expected to apply for full certification. Usually, individuals applying for Associate certification need more time to fulfil the experience requirement of 3 years.

Associate certification candidates can submit an application at any time. There is no exam for associate certification.
Professional certification candidates must apply by stated application deadlines of their preferred exam administration window. See Exam.
Associate to Professional certification transition candidates must use the Associate to Professional transition application form. Candidates must apply by stated application deadlines of their preferred exam administration window. See Exam.
When your application is ready, go to the Apply tab and choose either New Candidate or Transition Candidate. Submit your completed application form so we can evaluate your certification eligibility. Your application must be submitted electronically and include payment of the non-refundable application processing fee (except transition candidates). Official transcripts of your college or university degrees must also be provided as part of the application process but sent directly from the academic institution to BCPE as noted on the application form.
Your application will be blind reviewed, taking 6-8 weeks. Once approved, you will be notified and provided information about the examination (Professional certification) or your certification status (Associate certification). If your application is not approved, feedback is provided and if relevant, you are invited to submit more information. Applications are valid for two years and can be re-reviewed without a fee during that time if there is modification to the application or additional information provided. After two years, a new application and fee payment is required.
